In 2001 Paul Burstow published a report examining the evidence for the inappropriate use of medication in care homes. The report found grounds for serious concern and made seven recommendations for action. Keep Taking the Medicine 2 was published in 2003 and updates the original report. It concludes that the problem remains largely unaddressed by the Government. Keep Taking the Medicine 3 was published in January 2005 and examines the Government's implementation of the standards for medication review of older people, set out in the National Service Framework for Older People. It highlights a lack of progress and lives are still at risk.
