Paul Burstow MP highlighting the plight of those who can't afford to heat their homes, in the run up to the fuel poverty bill - which he co-sponsored in March
MP for Sutton and Cheam, Paul Burstow, has organised a free advice session (Friday 12th) to help constituents cut their fuel bills and keep their homes warmer by being more energy efficient.
Based on the responses to a survey sent out by Mr Burstow earlier this year, that asked how people were coping with the credit crunch, he contacted EAGA a leading energy efficiency provider to set up this advice event for constituents.
Representatives from Age Concern, Warm Front, the benefits service and the Council will be available to offer advice on issues including heating and insulation grants as well as energy efficiency measures, which could help lower fuel bills for many households.
Mr Burstow was a co-sponsor of a bill in March this year, designed to cut fuel poverty by utilising energy efficiency measures and making more social energy tariffs available.
Paul Burstow MP said:
'Nobody should ever have to make the choice between food and fuel yet this is the reality for thousands of households in Sutton. In the last decade over 500 local people have died because they can't afford to heat their homes during the winter.
'This isn't right in 21st century Britain and I want to do everything possible to stop it. Friday's event is open to anyone and I want to encourage people to come along and find out how they can be helped. No-one need be cold come next winter.'
