Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, joined local campaigners and church leaders to deliver a petition to Downing Street today calling on the Home Office to stop an Egyptian family living in Sutton from being deported, because of fears of the discrimination their severely autistic son will face in Egypt if they are forced to leave.

The petition of over 800 signatures was delivered to Downing Street by dedicated friends of the Bolis family and the families Priest.

The group asked Mr Burstow for his help when the family were being held at a detention centre near Gatwick and were not released when they should have been.

Mr Burstow raised the case of the Bolis family yesterday during questions to Home Office Ministers and has secured a meeting with a Minister to discuss the case further.

Commenting after delivering the petition Mr Burstow said:

'The fact that the Bolis family have inspired such support from their friends, neighbours and church is testament to the strength of their case.

Campaigners for the Bolis family hope that they will be able to overturn the Home Office decision'I hope that by petitioning the Home Office and meeting the Minister it will be possible to make the case for a change of heart.'

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
