Burstow pressures Department of Health for St Helier answer.

January 13, 2009 12:51 PM

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, is today meeting with Alan Johnson the Secretary of State for Health to demand that the government release the funding for to build a new patient block at St Helier.

Mr Burstow has been highly critical of the local NHS for a decade of dither which has seen delays in vital investment at St Helier.

Mr Burstow will be joined by neighbouring MPs, Tom Brake and Siobhain McDonagh. The MPs plan to press for an early decision to fund the project.

Commenting before his meeting with Mr Johnson, Mr Burstow said.

'This is a critical moment in our long fight to bring St Helier up to the standards which its local residents deserve.

'I'm pleased that Alan Johnson agreed to meet us and I hope that it will produce a positive outcome. I will not rest in my efforts until there is a signature on the cheque.'

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
