A survey by local Lib Dem MP, Paul Burstow, has revealed the difficulties new residents in the Worcester Park area have registering with a GP.
The survey was undertaken by Mr Burstow following a meeting with residents on the Hamptons.
The survey found that 60% of residents on the Hamptons in Worcester Park have to travel up to 3 miles to see a GP. Some residents have to travel to Motspur Park, Merton Park and New Malden for a GP. Four households were refused registration with a local GP when they said they lived on the Hamptons. Another tried to register with four different GPs and was told that they were full.
Commenting Paul Burstow MP said, "When it comes to Worcester Park the Primary Care Trust has a bit of a blind spot. What these results show is that anyone moving into the area has difficulties getting a new GP.
"I have been told that people moving on to the Hamptons are advised to keep their old GP. Certainly this is borne out by my survey which shows that people have to travel further to see a GP than the borough average."
Mr Burstow wants the PCT to improve access to GP services in the area either by helping existing GPs to set up a satellite clinic or by establishing a new centre for the area.
