Burstow pressures for Post Office to re-open

November 21, 2008 11:26 AM

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, is urging Royal Mail to re-open the Sutton Common Road Post Office without delay.

Mr Burstow has put pressure on the Royal Mail to find a quick, workable solution. He has written to the Chairman of Royal Mail to ask him to intervene in the situation and has received a reply assuring him that the matter is being taken seriously. Royal Mail is also following up leads which Mr Burstow gave them about who could possibly take over the running of the Sutton Common branch.

Mr Burstow commented,

'I hope that the Post Office Ltd are really taking this matter as seriously as my constituents have and will be re-opening our Sutton Common Road branch as soon as is possible.

'The response from Royal Mail has been positive I just wish that the government placed as high a priority on Post Offices as my constituents do, so that these vital local services are not lost because of a bureaucratic directive from Whitehall.'

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
