More lottery money for local projects - Burstow

November 11, 2008 3:35 PM

Paul Burstow MP addressed a workshop at Whitehall this week designed to help boost the amount of Lottery Funding for groups in Sutton borough.

Sutton borough, has in the past not received as much funding as other London boroughs despite its rich history, something which local MP Paul Burstow is hoping will be changed. Paul spoke at the workshop about Sutton's significant heritage which spans several centuries and urged the groups present to apply for extra money to bolster their work.

The Heritage Lottery Fund is keen for local organisations in Sutton to apply for more grants and would welcome more request for project funding to explore and protect local and cultural history.

Speaking after the event Paul Burstow said,

'Its good news that the Heritage Lottery Fund are making the borough a priority to boost awards.

'The joint working between HLF, Sutton Council and SCVS should help encourage local groups to benefit from the resources HFL have available.

'In the past grants have been a great help to a range of projects as diverse as Sutton Puppet Theatre, Sutton at War and the Gentlemen Slavers Exhibiton that was a part of the recent Text Fest. I hope that after todays event we can look forward to further success stories that celebrate and preserve our valuable history.'

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
