SUTTON NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH DOUBLES MEMBERSHIP

May 30, 2008 12:00 AM

The Borough's Neighbourhood Watch Association is going from strength to strength. That was the message to supporters of the Association at its Annual General Meeting last week (Tuesday 27th May) from their President, Paul Burstow MP. In the past year the Association has doubled its membership to over 800 residents, secured charity status, sorted out arrangements for erecting Neighbourhood Watch signs, and produced a member's guide.

A well attended AGM received a progress report from Association Chair, Heather Shaw, and presentations from Chief Inspector, David Gair, Crime Prevention Officer, Duncan Harris, and Sutton Trading Standards Officer, Brian Cox on a wide range of initiatives that were being taken to keep Sutton one of the safest boroughs in London.

Association President, Paul Burstow MP, said: "Neighbourhood Watch is going from strength to strength in the borough. A hardworking committee led by Heather Shaw is building up the organisation, developing relations with the Police and Council and supporting the grassroots watch members.

"With the arrival of Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams across the borough Neighbourhood Watch is their perfect partner. Effective community policing requires reliable and regular intelligence, at its best that is what members of Neighbourhood Watch can provide."

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
