AIR CADETS CELEBRATE BUMPER NIGHT OF AWARDS

May 17, 2008 12:00 AM

Sutton and Cheam Air Training Corp Cadets were praised last Thursday (8th

May) by Air Vice Marshall Clive Evans and local MP and Squadron President, Paul Burstow MP. The cadets were on parade for the Squadron's AGM and award presentations.

Amongst the awards presented during the evening were three BTEC certificates in aviation studies which is equivalent to 2 GCSE's grade at A-C. A further three BTEC awards in aviation were presented. The awards are equivalent to 1 GCSE at grades A-C. Both of these qualifications support cadets who want to carry out the BTEC award in Public service from the age of 16. The squadron will have cadets achieve this qualification by the end of 2008.

As well as BTEC award twelve First aid awards were presented and these will count towards the service section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Three cadets also received certificates from Air Vice Marshall Clive Evans

Squadron President, Paul Burstow, said: "With over 30 young people in the squadron it was great to see their hard work being rewarded with qualifications, promotions and certificates. With young people so often in the news for the wrong reasons it is good to see the other side, hardworking, responsible young people having fun and growing up."

Squadron Commander, Flt Lt Shaun Whitehead, said: "I am very proud of my cadets; they work very hard to achieve all that has been awarded tonight. They are a credit to themselves their families and the Air cadet organisation."
