POST OFFICE CLOSURE CONSULTATION A SHAM - BURSTOW

May 7, 2008 12:00 AM

Local MP, Paul Burstow, has hit out at the Government's sham consultation over post office closures. The Post Office consulted earlier this year about plans to close five post offices across the borough, including Gander Green Lane. The Post Office have confirmed their intention to close the Gander Green Lane sub-post office.

Mr Burstow said: "The Post Office made it clear, the Government had set the policy, 2,500 sub-post offices must close, save one and another one must go. All we could hope to do was convince the post office that they had got their facts wrong. This was not a consultation it was a sham.

"I know from the letters I have received from local residents how important the local post office in Gander Green Lane is. Despite the petitions and the letters the Post Office has gone ahead and wielded the axe. But the real villain is Gorden Brown's Government who have undermined local post offices."

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
