Local MP Paul Burstow is backing calls for the local NHS to study the possibility of setting up a midwife-led maternity service in the borough.
Mr Burstow was taking part in a stakeholder meeting with the local NHS about maternity and paediatric services on Tuesday 22nd April.
Commenting after the meeting Mr Burstow said:
"Having been born at St Helier and seen all my children safely delivered there too I am keen to defend and promote local maternity services. But there is a real need to invest in local services and offer mothers more choice.
"I also want the local NHS to examine the possibility of using part of the Sutton hospital site to develop a midwife led maternity service."
