New Neighbourhood Watch signs to go up around borough

March 18, 2008 12:00 AM

Around 350 new Neighbourhood Watch signs are being put up around the borough by Neighbourhood Watch street co-ordinators and officers from local Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNTs).

It's a key part of an initiative to raise the profile of Neighbourhood Watch in the borough, which has grown from 500 to 850 members over the last three years.

President of Neighbourhood Watch Sutton Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, commented: "These signs send a powerful message that we are living in a community where we look after one another and a community which looks out for crime. It's why we are one of the safest boroughs in London. These signs will help to keep us safe."

Heather Shaw, who is chair of the Sutton Neighbourhood Watch Association, said: "Neighbourhood Watch and SNT officers are looking to work more closely together and these signs are a clear indication that this closer relationship has started."

On Friday 14th March Mr Burstow went walkabout in Sutton West ward with local Safer Neighbourhoods Sergeant Graham Elrick.

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
