Following a meeting with Marwood Braund, of Sutton Hearing Support Group, local MP Paul Burstow has raised serious concerns about the audiology departments at both Sutton and St Helier hospitals.
It seems that a lack of modern facilities and not enough access leaves patients waiting up to seven months for treatment.
Mr Burstow has called an urgent meeting with fellow Liberal Democrat MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake and Bill Gillespie, Chief Executive of the local primary care trust to discuss what plans there are to modernise services and for the recruitment and training of staff.
Paul Burstow said:
"It is simply not acceptable that patients in Sutton are left waiting seven months for what is often quite simple treatment.
"There are 380 on waiting list and it apparently will take 7 months to see them all. This would imply that 4-5 people are seen a day across the St Helier and Epsom departments (2.5 per dept!), so how many sessions are run a day/week and what is the rest of the time taken up with?"
