To mark Veterans Day yesterday, Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, met with a number of Veterans to honour their and many other's service and sacrifice for this country. This was the first V Day that many of the veterans have been able to wear their newly received Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge.
The veterans thanked Mr Burstow for his help in applying for their lapel badges. Back in January Mr Burstow started a campaign to highlight the badge and encourage people to write to him and receive an application form.
As of yesterday the badge is now available to anyone who served in the forces before 1994; Merchant Navy Seamen, Home Guard veterans and war widows receiving a war pension are among other groups able to qualify for the badge. Mr Burstow is continuing his call for anyone who feels they may be entitled to a badge to contact his office by writing to: 312-314 High Street, Sutton, SM1 1PR or by telephone on 0207 219 1105.
Speaking on the day, Paul Burstow MP said:
"Our veterans are an inspiration. There service and the sacrifices they have made for our country deserve to be recognised and honoured. It is good news that more people can now apply for the Veterans Badge.
"I would again encourage anyone who feels they may be entitled to the badge to contact me for an application form."
