Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, joined Doreen Kennett, a volunteer from Sutton's Hearing Aid Remedial Project (SHARP) on Monday as she visited Eothen Care Home in Worcester Road.
Mr Burstow shadowed Ms Kennett as part of Volunteers week, to learn about the valuable work she does as a volunteer for SHARP. Volunteers from SHARP visit day care centres and care homes throughout to check, clean and adjust the hearing aids of those who are unable to get to the Audiology department at St Helier Hospital.
SHARP is part of the Volunteer Centre Sutton - anyone interested in volunteering with SHARP or another organisation should contact the Volunteer Centre on 020 8770 4858.
Commenting after the visit, Paul Burstow MP said:
"Sutton has a vibrant and successful voluntary sector, with hundreds of people giving up their time to help others."
"This week is an opportunity for all of us to thank these people, and the staff at the Volunteer Centre who help to make our voluntary organisations so successful."
"It was very interesting to see the work which Doreen and the other SHARP volunteers do - they provide a valuable service for some of the borough's most vulnerable deaf and hard-of-hearing people."
