Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, has launched an online petition calling on Surrey County Council to reject proposals to sell Nonsuch Mansion, when they meet on 27th February.
Mr Burstow has launched the www.savenonsuch.org.uk website in response to proposals put to Surrey County Council by its Member Asset panel which involve options including "the disposal of the Mansion House in order to release capital". His campaign to save the Mansion is being supported by local Liberal Democrat Councillors as well as local residents and park-users.
Mr Burstow has also taken copies of his petition to shops and cafes in Cheam and North Cheam in an effort to collect as many signatures as possible before the crucial meeting on 27th February. The response from local residents and park users has been overwhelming as news of Surrey CC's plans becomes increasingly widespread.
Speaking about his campaign, Mr Burstow said:
"Throughout the week, people have spoken to me of their outrage that Surrey County Council is discussing proposals to sell the Mansion."
"Sale of the Mansion would affect thousands of local people who enjoy using the park - dog-walkers, children, parents and many more."

"I hope people will visit www.savenonsuch.org.uk to sign the petition or contact my office - it is vital that people sign up if we are to show Surrey County Council just how much opposition there is to this proposal."
