Sutton Seniors' Forum has become the first Seniors' Forum in the UK to be awarded the 2006 Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. It is one of only 8 organisations in London to have received the award this year.
Local MP Paul Burstow - who nominated the organisation because of the work they do for older people in the area - congratulated the Forum on receiving the award last week, saying that the recognition was well-deserved.
Burstow said:
"The Sutton Seniors' Forum is a great asset to the people of Sutton. The Forum does a fantastic job representing the concerns of older people in our community and I'm really pleased to see them get this recognition."
"I nominated the Forum for the award because I wanted to draw attention to the hard work of the volunteers who provide such a useful service to Seniors in Sutton - I'm really pleased to see them receive the award."
