Paul Burstow will continue his fight for fair postal recognition for Cheam this weekend with a campaign in the village centre.
For more than a year Paul Burstow has been trying to persuade Royal Mail to recognise the historical importance and continuing significance of Cheam. He is calling for it to be recognised as the unique postal area for people living in the Cheam area. The Royal Mail insists on retaining Sutton, the postal town, for 'efficient delivery'.
Before Christmas, the MP produced stickers bearing the message "Cheam is our address - Proud to be Cheam" which he asked residents to stick on their Christmas mail. Paul received many messages of support from residents who used the stickers to illustrate the strength of their feeling on this issue.
On Saturday lunchtime Burstow will join local campaigners Alexandra Ankrah and Nick Kounoupias in the centre of the village to hand out stickers to local residents in another attempt to draw attention to the campaign.
Paul Burstow said:
"I've been really encouraged by the response we've had from local residents to the stickers we sent out before Christmas. My office has been bombarded with requests for more stickers from people interested in the campaign so I hope to see many people supporting us on Saturday.
"Cheam deserves this recognition and local people have really got behind the campaign. There's only one Cheam in the United Kingdom, while there are more than 50 places with Sutton in their name - if anything Cheam would be more helpful than Sutton to include in the address."
Paul Burstow will be outside the Lloyds Bank in Cheam between 11.00am and 1.00pm on Saturday 11th February. Paul will be accompanied by local campaigners Alexandra Ankrah and Nick Kounoupias
