Unemployment up 18% in Sutton and Cheam - Burstow

Local MP Paul Burstow today responded to the latest official figures on unemployment which show the number of people claiming job seekers allowance in Sutton and Cheam has increased by almost 18% in the last year.

Paul Burstow said:

"The sharp increase in people seeking work over the last year in Sutton and Cheam is a serious cause for concern.

"As consumer debt in Sutton reached £3 billion last year, a downturn in the economy could lead to serious financial difficulty for many.

"The Government must now own up to the challenges the economy is facing."
