Burstow's warm thanks for Warm Front

October 4, 2005 4:45 PM

With the cold winter months approaching, local MP Paul Burstow is celebrating the work of the Warm Front scheme in Sutton and Cheam.

Managed by Eaga Partnership, Warm Front has been tackling fuel poverty for over five years by installing heating and insulation measures into the homes of vulnerable people, assisting 633 households in Sutton and Cheam to date by re-insulating homes, and repairing or providing brand new central heating systems. The total spend of over £510,535 in the area has enabled qualifying homeowners and tenants to receive improvements to their homes and make significant savings on household energy bills.

Also offered to residents applying for the Warm Front scheme is the opportunity to undergo a check to see if they are in receipt of all the benefits to which they are entitled. Benefit Entitlement Checks have been operating as part of Warm Front since June 2003, with residents in Sutton and Cheam receiving an average weekly increase in their benefits of £21.90.

Speaking at the start of a new Parliamentary term, Paul Burstow MP said: "Far too many people are struggling to heat their homes, often at serious risk to their health. The Warm Front scheme is here precisely to help vulnerable people make their homes warm - it's a fantastic programme that we should be taking advantage of. I often meet constituents who have no idea that they could qualify - it's a great shame that some people are missing out."

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
