Sutton and Cheam MP, Paul Burstow, was honoured for making a difference for people living with cancer at an evening reception in Parliament this week (29 June).
The summer reception hosted by Macmillan Cancer Relief was held in Westminster to celebrate inspiring and dedicated people and groups who work in Parliament, user involvement, service development and delivery, to address the needs of people living with cancer.
Paul Burstow was presented with a "Macmillan Champion" award in recognition of his support for people living with cancer, and commitment to improving health services, both in his constituency and in Parliament.
Paul Burstow MP said:
"I am delighted to receive this award. It has been a real privilege to be involved with the work of Macmillan Cancer over a number of years. I continue to be impressed by the sheer breadth of services they provide, from running a national support helpline down to funding the superb Macmillan nurses in local hospitals. Their work makes an enormous difference to people affected by cancer."
Peter Cardy, Chief Executive, Macmillan Cancer Relief, commented:
"On top of everything else he does for his Sutton and Cheam constituents, Paul has been a fantastic supporter of Macmillan Cancer Relief at Westminster. Whether it's been helping Macmillan persuade Ken Livingstone to ensure anyone travelling to cancer treatment within the congestion charge zone can claim reimbursement, or pushing for everyone with cancer to be protected from disability discrimination from the moment of diagnosis, Paul has been there for us."
