Paul Burstow MP has called on local police, fire and environmental health chiefs to step in to protect the public from the risk of fire and anti-social behavior of boy racers gathering midweek at the Brighton Road BP garage, after measures taken last year by BP bosses appear to have failed.
Last year the Sutton and Cheam MP urged senior executives at BP to take responsibility for implementing appropriate deterrents to the groups of young men in cars hanging around the Brighton Road garage forecourt, revving engines and playing loud music late at night.
Despite some measures being adopted by BP, the problem has resurfaced and Paul Burstow is urging the authorities to step in to protect the public.
Paul Burstow has written to Borough Police Commander, Superintendent Bob Reid, and Andy Holcomb, Borough Fire Commander, in addition to and Head of Health and Safety at Sutton Council, Tom Jeffrey, to urge them to step in to protect the public from the risk of fire - posed by the young men smoking and using mobile phones in the petrol station - as well as tackling the late night noise nuisance of revving engines and loud music.
Paul Burstow has met with local residents whose lives have been made a living nightmare by this behavior.
Commenting Paul Burstow said:
"The failure of BP to get a grip of this problem and the irresponsible behavior of these young men is causing misery to many of my constituents. Loud music, revving engines and the potential fire hazard of smoking are blighting the evenings of residents living near BP's Brighton Road garage.
"I want BP bosses to take their responsibilities to their neighbours more seriously. I have asked the police council and fire brigade to get together with BP to crack this problem."
