"At last the phoney election is over and people can make their voice heard. Over the last four years it has been the Liberal Democrats in parliament who have been the real opposition to Tony Blair. On Iraq, on tuition fees, on ID cards and so much more. Now the country is crying out for a real alternative.
"I am looking forward to the campaign and all the signs are that nationally and locally the Liberal Democrats are set to gain more votes and win more seats."
