Commenting on the National Audit Office report on NHS cancer service provision, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Paul Burstow MP said:
"The NAO have lifted the lid on NHS cancer services, and have found yet again that Ministers are exaggerating their record on cancer services.
"Whilst this report shows that hardworking NHS staff are delivering an improved service, the reality of waiting times for too many patients still lags behind Ministerial boasts.
"What is clear is that far too many patients are stuck on hidden waiting lists for diagnosis and treatment.
"It is time that Ministers were honest with the public and published the facts. Cancer patients deserve a quick diagnosis of their disease, so that their NHS treatment is not delayed."
