Commenting on today's report in The Lancet on the effects of alcohol, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Paul Burstow MP, said:
"Ministers need to stop treating alcohol as simply a law and order issue. Alcohol misuse is storing up huge long-term health costs.
"The Government's Alcohol Strategy fails to get to grips with excessive drinking which is putting the lives and health of so many at risk.
"People need better information to make responsible decisions on how much they are drinking. Clear labelling with numbers of units should be mandatory".
