Plans for GPs to get their own budgets to commission services should involve nurses, therapists and pharmacists, the Liberal Democrats said today.
Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, said:
"If this initiative is to succeed it must go beyond the GP and involve the whole primary care team so that the expertise of nurses, therapists and pharmacists are also harnessed.
"This initiative has the potential to put patients in the driving seat, but it is essential that this does not mean the patients of some GPs get a better deal than others. This policy should be implemented carefully, and evaluated, so that no patient is left behind and all patients are given more control over their healthcare."
