NHS Must Focus On Long Term Conditions

The NHS must focus on the needs of those living with long term medical conditions, the Liberal Democrats said today.

The comments were made following proposals put forward by 20 health organisations to improve the treatment of 17 million people living with long-term conditions such as asthma, diabetes and cancer.

Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, said:

"People with long term medical conditions have been overlooked by the NHS for too long.

"With more people than ever before living with, rather than dying from, their disease, it is essential that the NHS focuses on their needs.

"Liberal Democrats have long argued for a more personalised approach to the planning and delivering of care. People deserve to get a speedy diagnosis, access to reliable information and the help and support they need to take charge of their health and manage their disease."
