The Liberal Democrats today slammed the Government's review of NHS 'arms-length' bodies saying that it is driven by the desire to win good headlines rather than to deliver better patient care.
Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, said:
"This review is driven more by a desire to cut costs for the sake of it and win good headlines rather than to deliver better patient care.
"Ministers are desperate for extra votes before the next election and are trying to outbid the Tories on slash and burn rather than come up with an arrangement that is fit for the purpose.
"Tough choices need to be made by the Government but ministers have yet to prove they will really let frontline doctors and nurses get on with the job of treating patients."
