Paul Burstow MP has been raising his and local residents concerns with Sutton police chiefs about the unacceptable disturbance being caused by young men gathering on the forecourt of the BP petrol station on the Brighton Road, playing loud music, revving their car engines and racing along the road.
The police recently held a meeting with representatives from the Partnership, Crime Prevention and Licensing teams, together with the Fire Service and Paul Burstow MP's office. It was agreed to set up an urgent meeting with BP's Area Manager to agree on appropriate deterrents. In the meantime the police will be increasing their surveillance of the area and will clamp down hard on offenders.
Paul Burstow MP has also written to senior BP executive to ask them to step in and co-operate with the police.
Commenting Paul Burstow said:
"A few inconsiderate youngsters are making local people's lives a misery. This is happening repeatedly between 11pm and 3am and could continue all summer if something is not done. I am urging the police and the owners of the petrol station to meet and agree on a package of measures to bring an end to this nightmare. The residents who have contacted me are at their wit's end and are entitled to some peace and quiet."
