Responding to the Royal College of Nursing poll which found nurses are divided over improvements in the NHS, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Paul Burstow MP, said
"It is shocking that 8 out of 10 nurses feel they have little or no say in how new money is spent. Nurses are close to patients and have a very valuable input into how to improve things at the coalface. Ministers need to stop dictating everything from Whitehall and let frontline staff have the freedom to make improvements for their patients.
"Despite Ministers' claims that they are tackling so-called delayed discharges, 6 out of 10 nurses say that this is still a serious problem. It is crazy logic for older people to be stuck in a bed in hospital when they should be getting care closer to home."
