Mental Health: NHS' Cinderella service

Responding to a report today by mental health charities which criticises mental health services for run down hospital wards and the use of outdated drugs, Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, said:

"This report points a disturbing picture of a service that is undervalued, under resourced and struggling to deliver.

"Mental health services are one of the NHS' Cinderella services under this government.

"What this report demonstrates is that the Government's fine words are not backed up by action. Mental health services continue to suffer from under-investment and the consequences are felt by those with mental health problems who have the right to expect a first class services."
