Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, has slammed the Government for its lack of leadership in tackling the rise in child obesity.
His comments are in response to the Health Survey for England by the National Centre for Social Research showing that almost a third of children aged two to fifteen are classed as overweight or obese.
Paul Burstow MP said:
"These figures show the price of Government inaction and a lack of leadership to halt the rise in obesity.
"Action is needed to deal with the high fat, high salt and high sugar diet that far too many young people are encouraged to eat. This is not just an issue for the fast food producers, it is also the problem of what our schools serve up to children on a daily basis."
