Commenting on today's reports by charities, which show that lung cancer patients are often denied vital scans due to lack of equipment, Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, said:
"Cancer patients deserve a quick diagnosis with modern equipment.
"Years of underfunding in the NHS have left Britain far behind our neighbours in providing suitable PET scanners for spotting cancer in early stages.
"Prevention through non-smoking campaigns must be key but that's no consolation for patients who are left waiting in anguish for their scan results."
