Sutton and Cheam MP, Paul Burstow, who is leading a campaign to persuade the Royal Mail to recognise Cheam as an official postal address, has appealed to local residents to help him build up a case to help determine the boundaries of the postal town.
Paul Burstow MP said:
"For Royal Mail officials to consider the claim of local residents we have to make a clear submission about the area we want them to recognise as Cheam.
"It could be the area described as the Parish of Cheam as determined by the Church of England, or Cheam Ward, as defined by electoral officials for the purpose of elections. Or it could be a combination of both.
"We need to start a debate on this issue through the local press, and I would welcome correspondence from residents with their views on where the boundaries should be."
Paul Burstow's petition to the Royal Mail has already attracted over 1,000 signatures, and many shops in Cheam have copies of the petition.
