Blue Badge disabled parking scheme regulations need review - Burstow
Speaking in a House of Commons debate, local MP Paul Burstow has called for Ministers to review the disabled blue badge parking scheme after local constituents were turned down for a badge because they did not fit the eligibility criteria set out by Government.
In the debate, Mr Burstow highlighted the plight of 2 constituents whose children have autistic spectrum disorder, which can result in challenging behaviour that can cause intense problems for the parents when they leave the house. Ministers in Whitehall argue that because the children's disabilities are not physical, there is no need for the parents to be given a blue badge permit.
Paul Burstow MP said: -
"Denying parents with autistic children a blue badge fails to recognise the caring load. This is a question of safety getting to and from the shops and transporting their children safely to other places is very difficult at the best of times."
"It is time Ministers reviewed the regulations governing the scheme to recognise safety as a real issue."
