Sutton 2001 Census Results

The Member of Parliament for Sutton and Cheam, Paul Burstow, has begun a search for 101 Sutton residents who have gone missing.

He has written to the Office for National Statistics to seek an explanation for a discrepancy in the Census figures published for the borough.

In the national statistics section of the Census, Sutton is shown as having a total population of 179,768. However in the age breakdown section, the borough is shown as having a population of 179,667 - 101 fewer people.

Paul Burstow MP said:

"The Census is an authoritative survey of the country's population, and it is important that it should not contain discrepancies or the credibility of the Census is undermined. "

"We value all our residents, so I've written to the Office for National Statistics who carried out the 2001 Census to ask for an explanation for our missing residents.

If you are a resident of the Sutton and Cheam constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
